Zandoe’s unique blend of cultural influences and upbringing in Montgomery, Alabama, undoubtedly shapes his artistic perspective. His Liberian and American heritage likely informs his music, providing a rich tapestry of experiences, sounds, and stories to draw from. Growing up in Montgomery, known for its rich history in the civil rights movement and vibrant cultural scene, could also play a significant role in shaping his identity as an artist.
Zandoe started his musical journey at the age of 16 as a member of the group Optimistic (OPT), under the name "OPT_I.R.A." This moment in his journey was characterized by Zandoe as a pivotal phase of self-exploration, he engaged in a process of sonic experimentation aimed at defining his artistic identity. Under the name OPT_I.R.A, he released four distinct projects: "No Signal" (2019), "Free The Robots" (2020), "1/10000" (2022), and "Dearly Departed" (2023). Each of these endeavors represents a milestone in Zandoe's artistic evolution. Zandoe felt that the name “OPT_I.R.A” wasn’t authentic and didn’t fully represent who he was. In March of 2023, he went by his real name, Zandoe, to show who he was and represent his culture properly. It was a big move for him, getting rid of that old alias and embracing his true self and where he came from.
